This site will be updated with on-going information throughout the day. Please check here before attempting to log in or open helpdesk tickets!

All users must save all work and turn off their computers before leaving work on the evening of Friday February 10th. Failure to do so may result in loss of data in open files and possible system lock-ups (particularly for Linux systems).

Impacted NRAO services running from CV include:

  • Email (all Exchange and CV-Unix)
  • ER and NTC Telephones (meeting room phones should be used for emergency calls)
  • cvfiler
  • CV mysql services
  • CV voicemail
  • www.nrao.edu
  • science.nrao.edu
  • help.almascience.org
  • alma-help.nrao.edu
  • ess.nrao.edu
  • safe.nrao.edu
  • All NRAO VPN access

UPDATE: Feb 11, 9:15AM – The maintenance has begun and services are being taken offline at this time.

UPDATE: Feb 11, 2:00PM – The new main network switch has been installed. Work is proceeding to configure it and reconnect network ports.

UPDATE: Feb 11, 4:00PM – Network services are being restored now. Non-Exchange email should be working at this time.

UPDATE: 4:25PM – All servers and services are being restored now. We are delaying SSH logins (polaris) until the rest of the network has been restored and we are confident of the state of the network.

UPDATE: 5:08PM – Most services should be restored at this time, including web services such as www.nrao.edu. A few NAASC services are still down while we finish some cable changes and cleanup. SSH logins are now available.

The end-of-life network switch at the heart of the Edgemont Road voice and data network is being replaced. All servers, office phones and staff computers will be inaccessible from the network starting 9am EST Saturday February 11th 2012 , with services progressively being restored throughout the afternoon. Work should be complete by 5pm.

The NAASC/ALMA Observer Helpdesk services will be failed over to the NM site, but an interruption of service may be experienced.

Services for NM (including VLA sites) and GB should not be impacted.

Once the CV network is back online, status updates will be issued at here. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter. Please address any questions or concerns about the this work to David Halstead and Derek Hart.
