Power outage in Charlottesville – RESOLVED

Power was lost at the Charlottesville site at 9:40 last night. Systems were shut down quickly to prevent data loss and hardware damage from heat buildup.

Power returned this morning shortly before 7:00AM. We are working to restore services now. At this time, the following should be up and running:

  • Non-Exchange Email
  • Primary web site (www.nrao.edu)
  • Science web sice (science.nrao.edu)

We will post more updates as we can.

Update: 7:40AM:

The ALMA science helpdesk and portal are up again. We are working to restore Exchange email, mailing lists and BOS now.

Update: 8:00AM:

Enough network services have been restored so we are booting the login server (polaris) now. Please do NOT report any unavailable systems until we have time to bring the rest of the network up. NOTE: we will NOT be powering on individual workstations.

Final update:

All power and services have been restored in Charlottesville except for 1 machine which suffered hardware failure.

Additionally, network connectivity was restored to Green Bank as of Monday at 8:00 PM. This had been down due to storm damage in West Virginia.
