CV Internet connection – RESOLVED

What: CV Internet connection
When: 0840-0900 Eastern Thursday November 25, 2016 (Thanksgiving morning)
Why: Upgrade software on network switch
Required Action: None

The CV Internet border switch (the network device that sits between the CV network and UVA) will be rebooted at 8:40 AM Eastern Thanksgiving morning in order to upgrade the software. This upgrade is needed to address an issue where one of the two links to UVA, which connects NRAO-CV to the Internet, goes into error-disabled mode. When this occurs the CV Internet connection is reduced by 50%.

The downtime is expected to take between 10 and 20 minutes with the CV Internet connection restored by 9:00 AM.

During this time, external access to CV-based services will be temporarily interrupted, as will Internet access from systems in Edgemont Road and NTC. This includes:

* Exchange mail server and CV-based Unix mail servers
* NRAO instance of the ALMA science portal
* NRAO Science help desk and science web site,
* NRAO public wiki

plus other servers and services.

With the exception of some bulk data transfer mechanisms, intranet access between NRAO sites WILL NOT be affected.
